MPAC-WNY
Standing In Solidarity With Our Jewish Friends

The Executive Board and the membership of MPAC-WNY, as well as the wider Muslim community, is dismayed and distraught with the recent desecration of Jewish cemetery in St. Louis and dozens of threats and attacks on Jewish Community Centers across the country, including the Jewish Community Center in Getzville in our own community.

We condemn such cowardly acts and stand in solidarity with our Jewish brothers and sisters. We stand ready to assist them in any way they wish. We are heartened to learn, as reported by Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA),  that the campaign titled “Muslims Unite to Repair Jewish Cemetery,” has raised over $115,000 in two days to repair over 170 gravestones vandalized at the Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery in University City, Missouri this week. We commend their and everyone’s efforts to stand together as one community against dark forces of prejudice and hate.

MPAC, nationally and locally, is very concerned with the rapidly rising anti-Semitism across our country. This, coupled with Islamophobia, Homophobia, Xenophobia and Racism is tearing our country apart. It must be stopped. At a time like this, we need vision from the President and unwavering leadership from the elected officials to nip such evil in the bud.

The diversity and the individual freedoms, including the freedom to practice one’s faith, enshrined in the US Constitution has made this Nation the best in the world and a beacon of light for all.  We appeal our civic, political and religious leaders and our fellow citizens to rise against bigotry, sexism and all types of racism so that our country can overcome the divide we face today.

We need time to heal and each and every one of us has a part to play in that healing.

With our best wishes and prayers.
